How to Participate
The HM Sloop OTTER, Inc, requires a heightened level of authenticity of its members. We adhere to specific specifications for all of our clothing, accoutrements, and weaponry in order to present an as accurate as possible portrait of life in late 18th and early 19th century.
Because of this, we have developed "manuals" for each of our three impressions to aid you along your journey to meeting the minimum requirements to be able to participate in events.
Anyone interested in joining our group must first meet with unit members and officers either as a visitor to one of our events, or in attendance at a unit meeting. Then, a membership form must be submitted along with your first year's dues to a unit officer. At that time, you will be given your Soldier or Sailor's manual. At that point you can begin collecting the items you will need to assemble an acceptable "kit" for participation. Be advised that this hobby does require an initial investment of approximately $1200 to get started, most of this being the price of a flintlock musket.
